Things have been moving along slowly, but well. There was a period of time where I did not get much opportunity to do my physical exercises. It was mostly do to my summer travels and other commitments, but I should not put my physical therapy off, I know how important it is. Along those lines I reflected in my journal….
Tonight I’m thinking that this physical therapy time is just a normal occurrence of “spending time with my vagina.” Just as one goes to the gym a few times a week, makes sure to get a certain amount of sleep, drink enough water and eat healthy. Brushing teeth, showering, etc. Well shouldn’t there be something I need to do for my vagina so that it has a healthy, fully functioning life? Yes sex could be good too, but so much of that depends on someone else. I think it makes sense that even once my vaginismus is healed I should still make sure I am giving my vagina what it needs. Not sure how often that will be, and that will probably change. I should just be listening and pay attention to my body. Communication will be essential in this case.
I was a little distracted but still managed to do the exercises. New observations. When kegel muscle is tight, wiggling my abs gets them to relax. I want to try and really isolate the tightening of the pelvic muscle specifically so that I have control of that muscle on its own.
I inserted the tip of my finger into my vagina. I wish I had communicated this more to my conscious brain to get in the habit of communicating better. I will still be doing tightening and relaxing separately from penetration exercises. First I want to focus on slowly getting the finger inside. That will take some time. And also just still growing accustomed to being touched in and around my vagina.
After my exercises I have a strange sensation. Not discomfort or soreness, but an awareness that I was just being touched in my vaginal area. A little bit like the sensation that remains after you scratch somewhere on your body.
Physical Check In posts are specifically about my very personal experience of the physical healing of vaginismus. These will be different for everyone. Feel free to contact me with any questions or thoughts. mailto:healingvaginismus@gmail.com
