I have a confession: writing these blog entries is difficult. I never know if my words are helpful to share, but I do believe that talking about the real experience of sex, relationships, and the life of our bodies is something vital for healing. If it has been essential to my own journey, perhaps someone else will need it too.
I have been absent for quite awhile and I am sorry for it. Some things happened in my life that made it difficult for me to see writing about vaginismus or my past as important. With everything going on in this world, there have been other worthy causes to commit myself to. When people are suffering around you, it can be difficult to see why your own feelings and experiences matter. I had a family member with cancer and it felt selfish to do my own physical therapy when she had to go to months of chemotherapy. And when time is limited it is easy to find an out.
I stopped writing these posts and I stopped doing my physical healing. I’m not proud and it is something that tugged in my heart. I believe that our stories as individuals do matter and that sharing and being vulnerable is essential in all aspects of life.
Over the past year I have seen many different articles about vaginismus and other disorders. Women have done incredible things as feminists and people. The discussions around intersectional movements have become louder. And while there have been ups and downs I personally believe all these words, stories, marches, and risks will lead to more openness, equality, and understanding.
Thank you. Whatever you have done to live as a good person in this world, thank you for listening and striving. I have a new post coming this week. I’m ready to do my part on this blog again and I’m ready to show that individual healing is as important and impactful as action. We need both.
